Aligning a Hybrid, Mission-Driven Organization Through a 3-Day Offsite

The Moment

A large, mission-driven organization based in Washington, DC convened its team for a 3-day offsite at a pivotal moment in its growth. With staff working across multiple locations, including a mix of in-person and remote team members, the organization needed intentional space to reconnect, realign, and strengthen how they worked together in a hybrid environment. This was not just about gathering. It was about creating shared clarity and cohesion across a distributed team.

The Challenge

As the organization expanded, the realities of a hybrid team introduced additional complexity:

  • Disconnection between in-person and remote staff experiences

  • Silos across teams and functions

  • Inconsistent understanding of priorities and strategic direction

  • A need to intentionally build culture and trust across distance

Without alignment, there was a risk that distance would turn into disengagement and that the mission would feel fragmented across the organization.

The Approach

A.Leigh Solutions designed and facilitated a fully tailored 3-day offsite experience grounded in the organization's mission, structure, and hybrid reality. The experience was intentionally designed to bridge connection, clarity, and commitment, while ensuring all participants, regardless of location, were meaningfully engaged. The design included:

  • Purpose-driven storytelling to reconnect staff to mission and impact

  • Structured opportunities for cross-team dialogue, intentionally mixing roles and locations

  • Interactive sessions to surface challenges unique to a hybrid environment

  • Clear pathways for translating insights into shared commitments

Special attention was given to facilitation strategies that ensured equity of voice between in-person and remote experiences so that all team members could fully participate and contribute. Through strong facilitation and real-time coaching, we supported the team in navigating complex conversations, naming tensions, and building shared understanding across differences. Rooted in an educator's lens, the experience was designed to be engaging, practical, and immediately applicable.

The Shift

Over the course of the offsite, the organization experienced a meaningful shift:

  • Increased connection and trust across both in-person and remote staff

  • Greater clarity on organizational priorities and direction

  • More open dialogue across teams and locations

  • A stronger sense of shared purpose and collective responsibility

The Impact

    • Improved cross-functional collaboration across a distributed team

    • Stronger alignment between individual roles, team goals, and organizational strategy

    • Increased engagement and connection across remote and in-person staff

    • Defined commitments to guide work beyond the off site
